I Admit, I Forgot

We both forgot. Five years ago Tuesday we had our legal marriage in San Diego when Mike got his job offer. And three years ago today we had our big family wedding in Berkeley.

Here's to all the adventures we've had and the many that are still to come!

Newsflash: Kindle on Sale

I don't normally advertise on this blog, but I love reading and I love my Kindle, so I'm sharing some news. Rumor has it that Amazon is redesigning the Kindle so the current model is on sale for $189, from $250-something. If you've been wanting one to store your summer reading or to make your book collection more compact before you move, now might be the time to check it out.

P.S. Now that I'm back in the States, the wireless feature is totally awesome.

*I have not been compensated in any way for this post, but if you click on the image and ultimately decide to buy, Amazon Affiliates will throw a few cents my way.

I guess I'll be reading a lot this summer

I moved from my hotel into our summer house on Sunday. It's a great little house. Clean and open. Big yard. Tree-lined street. One mile from the beach. Not really my taste in decor, but that's what you get with furnished rentals. The internet's a little wonky and the most basic cable doesn't come in regularly. However, the wireless feature for my Kindle works and there are plenty of places to sit quietly and read.

All those baby books are starting to feel like homework. I swear I'll get to that Labor and Delivery chapter of What to Expect as soon as I finish Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.

Re-entry Notes

1. High-speed internet is so awesome I can't even talk about it.
2. It's not shorts and flipflop weather every day in New England. I have to check temperatures and dress appropriately. Long sleeves? Socks?
3. Is it important for me to know who people like Snooki and the Kardishians are? They seem to be everywhere yet I can't figure what they do exactly.
4. I can only spend a maximum of twenty minutes in a large store, like Wal-Mart or even Stop & Shop before I get a headache. Too much stuff! Too many choices. I need toothpaste. There are literally a hundred different options.
5. Speaking of large stores, I'm also overwhelmed by large parking lots. And how they are mostly empty these days.
6. A good hotel is also so awesome I can't even talk about it.

Short Update on the Long Road Home

It was a long thirty hours and despite delays and frustration along the way, the cat and I both arrived in Providence, Rhode Island, yesterday afternoon right on time. I don't want to dwell on the bad parts (although for my food blog I have a few things I'd like to say about the gluten-free meal services on my flights) so just know that we were both tired and scruffy upon arrival, but after a good dinner, plenty of water, and a few hours of sleep, we're both looking and feeling much better. She's snoozing next to me right now, apparently not affected by jet lag at all. I got several solid hours of sleep, but woke up around 8:00 am Buj time, which is 2:00 am here. I see several naps in my future.

I Am a Zombie

Recently I reached that point in the moving process where I go on auto-pilot and hope that everything I wrote down in my calendar weeks ago is still valid, because all I can do is look at my calendar and follow the directions. I've pretty much finished up in my office, only needing to go in tomorrow to say good-bye to people. The cat still needs her health certificate and I'm waiting for payment to be received by the pet shipper before I can breathe half a sigh of relief and gear up for actually getting her onto the plane. I'm mostly packed, except for the clothes I've been wearing this week. All my medical stuff is in order. Uhhh, that's about all sentences I can put together coherently right now.

This briefly pulled me out of my zombie trance this afternoon:
Pucci Makes the Smiles

They'd make a nice new-mom gift for someone in about eight weeks, no?
