Color Me Holi

This weekend was Holi, a Hindu holiday in celebration of triumph over evil spirits. If you've seen the Incredible India! commercials on CNN, the part where boys are throwing paint on each other, that's Holi.

We ventured out to a Holi party with Muffin and some friends today.

As you can see, Muffin actually stayed fairly clean until we got home and started washing ourselves up. She's fine, but Mike and I are going to be pink for days. We look like we have terrible sunburns. And who remembers when my hair was pink? The pink hair has returned for a few days. (I like it!)

Happy Holi!

I just went through all your posts in Hyd. Fun to follow you as you settled in. I also arrived there with a small baby (six weeks old) and incidentally, I also broke my little toe when we were still staying at the hotel... Anyway, hope to see more pictures. We miss India, and Hyderabad an awful lot. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did...

The Weekly State Department Blog Round-up is posted, and you're on it! http://whaleears.blogspot.com/2011/03/artsy-crafty-round-up.html.

If I've made any errors, or you prefer not to be included, just let me know. Thank you!

I love the pics of Muffin with the paint! (I know you mentioned that your Round Up was about bathrooms overseas. Just wanted to pass on this link too though. It's a great pic http://shenyanigans.blogspot.com/2011/03/napping-on-sandbags.html)

My daughter so wants to be at one of the holi festivals. Do they sell the colors year round or just prior to the holiday? Are there rules to throwing? It looks like so much fun!

Nomads, I don't know if they sell the colors year-round. We went to an Indian family's party where they go all out with craziness. (Muffin was watching from a safe distance.) Lots of groups have kid-friendly parties with colors that wash off much more easily and with gentler rules for the little kids.
