Travel Photo Friday: Pumpkin Shopping, Rythu Bazar, Hyderabad, India

We can't go to a pumpkin patch or an apple orchard here, so two weekends ago we went to one of the big produce markets, Rythu Bazar, in search of pumpkins for Halloween.

Thanks for sharing your trip to the market -- and the jack o lanterns too.

The market looks amazing - glad you were able to find your pumpkins! It must be difficult trying to maintain traditions like Halloween when you are living abroad.

Guess we take pumpkins for granted here since they're so easy to find!

I love to read about how ex-pats keep home traditions alive while abroad. Looks like you are doing a great job!

Thanks everyone! Pumpkins are used as one of the ceremonial offerings for a local holiday in October, so they're seasonal this time of year. There's just not the same big tradition as going out for a family day of pumpkins and cider at a farm or anything like that. Our housekeeper loved that we carved faces on them and put candles inside. She'd never seen anything like it before!

I am fascinated by India and love seeing your photos of daily life. Seems like everyone took your pumpkins in stride -- I've gotten some WEIRD looks celebrating Halloween in countries where it's not traditional!
